ppo – What Is A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)?

What Is A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)?

A Preferred Provider Organization (also known as a PPO) is a managed care system that offers members health benefits and medical coverage based on a specific structure and network of medical professionals and facilities. PPOs are commonly sponsored by employers or insurance companies and help subsidize member medical costs. All doctors, hospitals, and health care providers involved in the network are selected by the preferred provider organization to provide medical assistance and health care coverage to its members. PPOs encourage members to utilize the doctors and hospitals within the PPO network but do allow members to visit out-of-network medical services providers. PPOs cover more of your medical costs if you visit an in-network provider. However, if a member visits a doctor or medical facility that is not within the PPO network, he/she is not covered at the level the member would be if he/she visited an in-network provider.

The member costs involved in a Preferred Provider Organization are specific to the members medical needs. Unlike an HMO where members pay a monthly fee for coverage, PPO members pay for their medical coverage based on the individual medical services used. But like an HMO, PPO members are often required pay a co-payment. A co-payment is an amount paid at the time of treatment to offset a portion of the medical costs. The amount of the co-pay varies depending on the specific medical treatment. Medical office visits have a different co-payment rate than prescriptions and more involved medical treatments.

In addition to a co-payment, and unlike an HMO, PPO members may be required to meet a deductible. A deductible is a dollar amount the Preferred Provider Organization requires a member to pay out-of-pocket before the member can begin to be reimbursed for his/her medical expenses. The deductible amount is normally an annual sum. If within six months of a year a member pays enough out-of-pocket expenses that equate the deductible amount, the PPO sponsor will start reimbursing the member for future medical expenses. However, if within a year, the deductible amount is not met, the out-of-pocket expenses do not carry over into the next year. The members out-of-pocket expenditure amount is set back to zero and the member must start over at the beginning of each year. However, some Preferred Provider Organizations have exceptions and offer carry-over deductible features.

Why a Preferred Provider Organization?

Preferred Provider Organizations offer more freedom and choices than other managed care insurance systems. Even if members go out-of-network for their medical needs, they are still covered to a certain degree. HMOs, for example, do not cover members if they go outside of the HMO network of providers. At least with a PPO, members get some coverage. Also with a Preferred Provider Organization, there is no need to establish and then have all medical treatment approved by a primary care physician (also known as a PCP). HMO plans also require members to select a physician as there primary care physician (PCP). This physician is the members primary care giver regarding all health-related issues and must sign off/refer members to other physicians if a specialist is needed. This limits the freedom a member has within the HMO network to visit an in-network doctor.

Why Not a Preferred Provider Organization?

Preferred Provider Organizations can be more costly to plan members. Since PPOs involve a deductible, PPO members often pay more out-of-pocket expenses for their coverage, depending on the specific medical services a member needs throughout the year.

Also, even though members have the freedom to visit an out-of-network provider, the cost to do so will most-likely be significant. Preferred Provider Organizations strongly recommend members to use in-network physicians and hospitals. To strengthen their recommendation, PPOs often pay noticeably less for out-of-network care than they do for in-network coverage.

A Preferred Provider Organization is a beneficial health plan for those seeking a wide range of medical coverage possibility. PPOs cover members even when they go out-of-network for their medical needs. However, PPO members do have added costs to going out of the PPO network for medical care.

Before you decide on a Preferred Provider Organization, read all the facts. Base you decision on your typical medical needs, your budget, and whether or not a PPO will be able to provide you with the medical care you need for the funds you have available for medical coverage.

auto insurance- information guide auto insurance

What should you look for in an auto insurance company?

What should you look for in an auto insurance company?

What is a car insurance? What will an auto insurance cover?

Auto insurance companies cover you and your passengers in the event of an accident. But it is up to you to decide the level of cover you will get.
Will the damages to your property be covered by the company? Will all the passengers be covered or only your family? What if your daughter was driving your car?

What questions should you ask your auto insurance company when it comes to auto insurance? This article help you choose between the various insurance policies.

Types of auto insurance

Liability insurance, or third party insurance.

This is general the lowest form of insurance offered by an auto insurance company. This is the basic insurance, if you are involved in an accident, and it is proven to be your fault, the auto insurance company will pay damages to the other party.

The cover offered by the auto insurance company is usually set beforehand. These are the maximum amount the auto insurance company will pay in case of accident
For example the agent will agree on a $10000 coverage per person, (bodily injury) and/or $40000 coverage in bodily injury and/or $10000 in property damage per accident
You need to confirm with your auto insurance company what they will cover and what are the limits.
You might be offered a very low premium by some auto insurance company only to realize that your cover is minimal and unrealistic.

Collision and comprehensive coverage, comprehensive insurance and full comprehensive insurance

An auto insurance company will also offer you a comprehensive insurance, as the name indicates, you will be comprehensively covered.
In simple terms it means that if you are responsible for a collision the insurance company will pay for the repair of the vehicle.
But it is not so simple, an auto insurance company will almost always have the final say on what amount will be paid out, so if it is cheaper to give you market value for the car, then they will.
You might think that your car is worth $1000.00 but the real market value might be $500.00. This is not an uncommon scenario. So if the repair of your car are more than $500.00 then the auto insurance company will simply pay the book value of the car.
You must make sure that the insurance company is not in control of the market value of the car, normally organisations like the AA will give an impartial market value.

As with the third party insurance, the auto insurance company will almost certainly limit the amount that will be paid out, but in general terms, a comprehensive insurance will have higher limits.

Recreation Vehicle

A recreation vehicle needs its own insurance, a Recreation vehicle insurance, (http://www.insurance-owl.com/other/car_rec.php), is not the same as auto insurance.
You should not assume that because your car is comprehensively insured, so is your recreation vehicle.

Other Types of auto insurance

Medical (Med Pay), Persona Injury protection (PIP) and no fault cover

This insurance will cover you and your passengers medical expenses in the event of a collision.
The no fault cover means that the auto insurance company will pay regardless of who is at fault. This give you the piece of mind that, at the very least, your family and friends are covered.
PIP is often a minimum requirement in some countries or states, ask your auto insurance company what the requirements are.

Uninsured/Underinsured motorists’ coverage

This cover, (also sometimes a minimum requirement in some states), will cover you if the person at fault is not insured or is underinsured.
You must ask your auto insurance company what you will be charged in case of such a situation. Normally the auto insurance company should not charge you some extra premiums.

Rental reimbursement, towing and labor

Those ‘extras’ often given with a comprehensive insurance is often use by auto insurance companies as specials.
So in case your car is damaged the auto insurance company will pay for rental costs, (sometimes only for a few days).
The auto insurance company might also offer to pay for the towing of your vehicle, (not always included).

As always you should ask your auto insurance company what is included in the cover.
The legal requirements.

Most states, and most countries will require a certain level of cover, from full comprehensive car insurance to third party auto insurance.
In most cases it is up to you, the driver, to ensure that your auto insurance company offers you the minimum required. In most cases the insurance company, (the auto insurance company), is under no obligation to instruct you of the requirements.

But of course, a good auto insurance company will, (should?), try its outmost to advise you on the best deal for you.

Save money on your auto insurance: Money-saving car insurance tips

Save money on your auto insurance: Money-saving car insurance tips

Are you paying too much for your auto insurance? If you believe you are paying too much for your current auto insurance coverage then the following suggestions may help you save money:

1. Shop around
Sure, you’ve read this tip everywhere but its true. Only by shopping around for auto insurance coverage and getting quotes on premiums from several insurance companies will you be able to know for certain you are getting your car insurance coverage at the best available rate.

When shopping for your auto insurance policy, remember to compare more than insurance rates. Ask about how insurance claims are approved and processed, and how quickly there paid. Look into each insurers financial stability (there are independent rating services that can help you with this.) Remember, during times of stress like after an accident you will be dealing with the insurance company and you’ll want to make sure you’ll be helped when you need it most.

2. Select a higher insurance deductible
When you file a claim, a deductible is the amount you pay first before your insurer pays the remaining balance. Often people select lower deductibles, so when they have to submit a claim, their out-of-pocket expenses are minimal. But the truth is, the higher your collision and comprehensive deductibles the lower your auto insurance premium. The savings by increasing your deductible to say $1,000 from $250 are significant you can save hundreds of dollars off your insurance premium.

Of course, the flipside is that if you should have to submit an insurance claim you are responsible for paying the deductible. So select the maximum deductible you can afford to pay the higher the better because the difference in your car insurance premiums will mean more cash in your pocket.

3. Remove or reduce coverage on older vehicles
If your car is getting up there in age, you may want to think about dropping the collision or comprehensive coverage (or both) on your policy. You need to think about this one though – it’s not always a clear-cut decision. You need to weigh the cost of the two coverages with the value of your car and your chosen deductibles. For example, if you had a 10-year-old car that’s worth about $1000, and your deductible was $1000, the coverage is not actually going to help you.

4. Ask about discounts
Most insurance companies offer discounts. While the availability of discounts will vary depending on your insurer, where you live and whether you meet eligibility, make sure to ask if there are any discounts you can take advantage of. The following is a list of a few of the more common discounts (if available in your state, each insurer will have different eligibility requirements):

Multi-vehicle discount – available if you insure multiple vehicles with the same insurer
Multi-line discount – available if you insure your home and auto with the same insurer
Good driver discount – if you have not had an accident or ticket in a long time
Good student discount – if your a student with good grades, usually about a B average
Safe driver discount – if you’ve taken and passed an accredited driver safety course
Anti-theft discount – if your vehicle has certain anti-theft devices installed
Safe vehicle discount – if your vehicle has certain extra safety features
Retiree discount – if you’ve reached a certain age, usually 50 or 55
Low mileage discount – if your vehicle is not driven often
Occupational discount – if you work in a certain field or hold a certain degree
Auto club discount – if you are a member of an auto club, like AAA
Association discount – if you belong to certain associations, like your alma mater
Away-at-school discount if your child is attending school out of town

5. Choose a car that costs less to insure
If your purchasing a new car and have narrowed it down to two or three options, compare the auto insurance rates of each to see if there is a notable difference in the cost to insure. Remember, insurance rates are more for vehicles with high theft rates and repair costs. If there is a significant difference in cost to insure your first choice car, you may have to reconsider.

6. Drive safely
OK, this one is obvious but true. Drivers with no accidents, tickets or insurance claims almost always pay less for their auto insurance coverage. Your driving record is an influential factor in determining your insurance rate. Tickets and at-fault accidents affect your insurance rates for years. With a less than perfect driving record, you can find yourself paying a lot of extra insurance premium over the years.

Auto insurance information guide

Auto insurance as we all know is the insurance consumers purchase for their vehicle be it a car, truck or any other automobile. The purpose of auto insurance is to safeguard the vehicle against accidents, theft and any other loss incurred. Auto insurance can cover, the insured party, the insured vehicle and the third parties. Different policies specify the situations under which each of these items is covered.

Like life insurance, auto insurance too has become the need of the hour. A surge in insecurity of the vehicles has resulted in many big and small companies venturing in this area and trying their luck.

There are different types of auto insurances available. The policies vary with the need and wants of the people purchasing the policy. For example certain types of insurance policies include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, medical payments, and collision and comprehension coverage for physical damage to the insured vehicle.

Broadly speaking an auto insurance policy is divided into five parts.

1. Declarations- this part of policy contains personal information about the drivers in your house. This includes their name and address, make and model of the vehicle, vehicle identification number, policy number, duration etc. This part also comprises of basic type of coverage that you purchased and your policy limits and deductibles. It is very important to provide correct information in this area; otherwise the insurance claim can be declined at ease.

2. Coverage Parts- in this option the coverage limits such as liability, medical, collision and comprehensive are discussed. This section primarily outlines what your insurance company guarantees to provide in return for your payment, based on the coverage and coverage limits opted.

3. Exclusions- this section briefs about what is left uncovered by your policy’s limitations. From here you will get to know that what all will be covered when you make a claim and allows you to make rectifications in the policy.

4. Conditions- this section is all about legitimacy i.e. the legal bindings on the insurer and the insured. It includes premium payment obligations, steps to filing a claim, and guidance to resolve disputes.

5. Definitions- also known as fine print, this segment is where terms and the rights of the policyholder and the insurance company are defined.

In several countries it is mandatory to purchase auto insurance before driving on public roads. The least requirement in this area is third party insurance to protect the third parties against the loss, damage or accident by a vehicle. You may or may not get an insurance cover against loss or damage to your own vehicle. While some other countries make the insurance of both the car and the driver compulsory.

Car insurance plans a regular flat charge per-car or per year despite of the extent to which the car is used. There is no adequate statistical basis for the insurers to compare costs used to support price classifications. Other well known methods of differentiation are reasonable estimation, odometer based systems, GPS based system and OBDII-based system.

Traditional Dental Insurance

This type of plan is very similar to any health insurance plans. You will be paying your weekly and monthly premium then you get 80-100% of the overall dental cost covered. Traditional dental insurance plan can be acquired through your employer or direct to an insurance agent. However, the only difference is that when you get a dental plan straight to the insurance agent and not through your employer, you will be paying higher premium since it is your employer who subsidizes part of the cost.

Voluntary Group Plans

If your company does not yet offer dental insurance plan but you and your co-workers want to have one, heres what you can do. You can ask your employer to arrange for a group dental insurance plan. This type of plan will let you and your co-workers pay for your own dental plan premiums. This way your group can avail of a huge premium discount with better benefits. Remember there is strength in numbers!

Dental Reimbursement Plans

Dental reimbursement plan cannot be considered as insurance but rather, this is an agreement between an employer and employee. It works when you pay for your own dental care services and forward the receipt to your employer and they will reimburse your expenses within a specified amount. With this, both you and your employer will never again worry about paying dental plan premiums every month. Plus, you can have your own choice of dentist! So if you do like the idea, all you need to do is ask your employer, now!

Home Insurance Coverage – How To Get Affordable Home Owner Insurance

When you first buy a home, you may become overwhelmed by all of the extra costs you never thought about having. One of those costs may be home insurance coverage. Young homebuyers may not see the need for such costly insurance, but anyone who has used their home insurance knows exactly how important it is. Many mortgage companies require specific coverage plans. Even if you choose to buy your home, without financing it, you will need home insurance coverage. Take a look at this information to learn more about home insurance plans.

When You Need Home Insurance

You may think home insurance is only good in natural disasters. When a tornado, hurricane, or earthquake damages your home, your plan should cover the damage. However, there are many times you can use your home insurance coverage regardless if there is a natural disaster or not. Consider this scenario: Your hot water heater bursts and no one is home. There is so much water on your floor that your expensive hard wood flooring is completely ruined.

With home owner insurance, you would simply be responsible for your deductible. The coverage would pay for the flooring to be replaced and often will even pay for a new hot water heater. Of course, these terms all depend on the type of plan you have, but for the most part, home insurance is beneficially for large as well as small disasters.

How To Pay For

Choosing how you pay for your home insurance coverage can be important. Some owners would rather add their insurance right into their mortgage payment. Many banks prefer you to do it this way and are happy to accommodate. Other insurance companies will allow you to pay the premium monthly, every six months, or yearly. Select companies will even offer additional discounts for those who make one yearly payment. Consider these things when setting up your home insurance. You may get a great deal when you choose the right payment arrangement.

Online Insurance Quotes Save You Money And Time

Why Go Online For Insurance Quotes?

We all need insurance, and some of us need more than others do. Sometimes it may seem like a huge percentage of our budget goes to pay for insurance. After you pay for car insurance, home insurance, life insurance, and health insurance, it may seem like we don’t have much money left! We know we don’t want to be caught without insurance, but we all know we would like to pay less for a top insurance plan! But we also have all heard stories of people saving hundreds of dollars in insurance premium by comparing local insurance companies and plans.

It can be very hard to shop for insurance. For one thing, insurance rates can depend upon so many factors. Almost all insurance has rates that are based on our zip code. Age is usually another factor, if you are shopping for products as diverse as car insurance, life insurance and health insurance. And one more factor that many people do not even know about, is that many types of insurance are also based upon a credit history or credit score!

Of course, for life or health insurance applications, you will need to answer dozens of health and family history questions. You will also need to answer questions about your lifestyle and family history. This can take awhile! If you plan on calling a half dozen insurance companies or local agents, you may as well plan on giving up several evenings for a very boring task.

If you are applying for car insurance, you need to answer questions about how you use your car, what type of car you drive, and of course, about your driving records. Other factors that may affect your rates are approved driving courses, safety features, and anti-theft devices. For student drivers, those expensive and tough to insurance folks, grade averages can even matter!

Your answers to all of these questions will let the insurance company determine how they want to rate you. Your answers may earn you a cheaper rate or ding you with an increase! You want to make an accurate and thoughtful application, but as you probably know, this can be a very time consuming process! Imagine taking 20 minutes to fill out half a dozen applications. That will be two hours spent, just on one type of insurance.

Shop Online To Save Time!

Internet insurance quote forms usually only take three or four minutes to fill out! They will allow you to submit them one time, and then sit back and wait for insurance companies to compete for your business with top plans at competitive prices! Then, when you have narrowed your selection down to one insurance company that offers the plan you need at a price you like, you can fill out an application. An insurance agent will assist you.

Quote Safe

Look for an online insurance quote system with third party verification like the Better Business Bureau or National Ethics Check.. Also look for a system that runs on a secure server so you know your information is safe.

Compare Cheap Car Insurance Quotes

When you compare cheap car insurance quotes, you probably compare the prices of each policy you’re considering. While comparing prices many seem like the obvious way to get a cheap car insurance quote, price should only be one factor.

Once you have your cheap car insurance quotes, you need to compare them as well as the car insurance companies. There are three factors to consider when you compare cheap car insurance quotes: coverage, cost, and service.

Coverage Offered by the Car Insurance Policy

The first factor to consider as you compare cheap car insurance quotes is the coverage offered by each policy you are thinking about purchasing. Theres no point in getting a really cheap car insurance quote if the policy doesnt offer the coverage you want and need.

Cost of the Car Insurance Policy

Now that you know about the kind of coverage offered by each car insurance policy, take another look at the cost of the policies. Do they still seem as cheap as they once did? With the kind of coverage offered by each policy in mind, does the cost of each car insurance policy seem reasonable, or does it seem you will be paying more than you are willing to pay for that coverage? Especially compared to the coverage and cost offered by the other car insurance policies you are considering?

Service Provided by the Car Insurance Company

It is time to take a look at the service provided by each car insurance company, or at least, the car insurance companies offering the insurance policies that have made your cut thus far. First, check the financial rating of the company; you can do this by asking an independent research company. Next, speak with actual agents and representatives from the company to get an idea of the quality and friendliness of the service. Finally, talk to friends and neighbors about their experiences with each car insurance company.

 what is the renters insurance

If you are a renter and do not have renters insurance you could be asking for a world of trouble. It is important that anyone renting anything from anyone have renter insurance in case a disaster should strike. The disaster could be in the form of damage from leaks, flooding, fire, earthquake, or tornado. It could also come in the form of lawsuits or injury if a guest to your home has hurt themselves with. If disaster strikes at any time and you do not possess renters insurance you could lose everything and have no way of retrieving it or any way of replacing it.

You see your landlord insures the home itself if anything were to happen to it, but their policy will not cover your possessions. It is important to know what you can expect when you are looking for renters insurance. Not all insurance companies are the same; they may offer different coverage than another and will almost certainly depend on what area of the world you live in. In general, your insurance company will likely cover events such as lightning, fire, smoke, and hail or a windstorm. Your insurance company may offer additional coverage with the policy or at an additional fee to cover flooding, water damage due to damaged pipes, damage to your property from vehicles or aircraft, falling objects, and riots.

In the event that damage to your possession has occurred your renters insurance, will help in one of two ways, either by issuing you a check for the actual cash value of the damaged items or issue you a check for the amount it will take to replace the damaged items. The difference between the two is simple, the actual cash value will be the amount it will cost to replace the damaged items with the depreciation value subtracted.

While you cannot replace the actual items that may be of high sentimental value, renters insurance will allow you to at least be able to retrieve replacements for your items. If ever a disaster were to strike your rented home, you could still be able to lead the same quality of life with renters insurance.

It is important that you speak with your renters insurance agent and know everything that is covered, what the costs are monthly, what your deductible is, and how to file a claim if a disaster should happen to strike.

Renters Insurance – How Much Coverage Do You Need?

If you are renting a home or an apartment it is wise to purchase renters insurance. Some renters mistakenly believe that the property, home or apartment owner has enough insurance to cover their belongings in the event of damage or robbery. But in reality it is very possible that the renter will not have their valuables covered through the landlord’s home or apartment renters insurance protection. Most landlords will have coverage for their dwelling, but not for your belongings inside.

What exactly does renters insurance cover? Each policy will be different depending upon your needs. Your individual policy will take into account your wants and needs and can be designed for you specifically. However, most policies will cover the basics, damage or loss due to water damage (plumbing problems, etc.), theft, fire and other common occurrences.

The smart thing to do is get some free renters insurance quotes online. Receiving online quotes can be fast and easy. Plus, the coverage you get now may help immeasurably when the unforeseen happens. In the event of the unforeseen, without insurance coverage you could lose most or all of your belongings, furniture and other personal items. This could be the cause of financial hardship which would have been prevented with a quality renters insurance policy.

When purchasing renters insurance it’s always a good idea to make a list of all of your belongings. On this list you should make note of the prices you paid for the items or their replacement cost. It’s also a great idea to use a video camera to videotape all of your household items. Without a list it’s very easy to forget what you owned or be able to prove that you actually owned specific items in the first place. Your inventory list and videotape should be kept in a safe place such as a fire proof safe. If this is not possible you will want to make two copies and store one at a relative’s house or some other safe location off premises.

It’s also important to know what your coverage includes. Finding out what you are covered for after the fact can be an unpleasant experience. You do not want to be put in the position of finding out that you don’t have adequate protection after all of your valuables are destroyed or stolen. So pay attention and make sure you know exactly what you are covered for.

If you are renting you need insurance. Many people think “it won’t happen to me,” but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Don’t get caught without a policy when the unthinkable happens. Make sure you can recover from anything that will be thrown at you. With quality protection it will be a lot easier to sleep at night.

Advice For Purchasing Renters Insurance

The best advice regarding renters insurance is purchase it. When we rent an apartment, a condo, a house, or a mobile home, we sometimes feel a bit too secure in knowing the property isnt ours. We dont own it; therefore, whatever happens to it, outside of the damage we may cause the property ourselves, is not our responsibility.

If the plumbing is faulty, the landlord will clean up the small lake in the kitchen and replace the pipes, right? If a storm hurls a tree through the living room window, the landlord will sweep up the broken glass and replace the window, right? If faulty wiring sparks a fire and burns the building to the ground, the landlord will just build again, right?

While it is the responsibility of the landlord and/or owner of the property to fix these damages not caused by you, it is not his or her responsibility to replace or repair your damaged or lost possessions along the way. So, whos going to replace your kitchen table when it becomes water logged, your television set once a tree rams through it, and everything else you own when the building burns down?

Your renters insurance company; that is, if you have a renters insurance policy.

A renters insurance policy is like a homeowners insurance policy in that your possessions are protected against accidents such as fire and water damage, as well as theft. When purchasing a renters insurance policy, you should follow the same advice as purchasing a homeowners insurance policy: take inventory of your possessions, decide how high or low you want your deductible to be to get the premium you can afford, and look into a floater policy if certain valuables arent covered under the renters insurance policy.

Don’t be swept away by the false security of not owning the property in which you live; remember, you do own the property you moved in with!
